Zanzibar cloves (Syzygium aromaticum) packed in Goa. Each 100g contains ~250 fragrant buds with 18% eugenol content. The natural dental analgesic numbs toothache when pressed against gums. Essential for biryani and garam masala. Insert in oranges for natural room freshener. Store in cool, dark place (3 years shelf life). The volatile oils contain acetyl eugenol that gives warming sensation. Traditionally used in Chinese medicine for cold conditions. Farmers sun-dry buds until they darken and harden. The flower stems are used for cheaper clove powder. Combines beautifully with cinnamon and star anise. Used in Ayurveda to balance kapha dosha. The oil is used in perfumery and dentistry. Harvested when buds turn pink before flowering.
